America's Cups

America's Cup is the oldest and best known trophy. My group and I found main ideas from a text, and then summarised the ideas and then evaluated it.

One of the main ideas my group and I wrote was that the first race happened around the Isle of Wight, or America beat the British and took the trophy back to the US.

We had to summarise the information into sentences using key words. Our one was that in 1851 was the first race of the America’s Cup. The America’s Cup is a yacht race. There were defenders and challengers.

New Zealand won the cup in 1995. Now in 2021 there is a race where the Auckland Harbour against Prada Luna Rossa - Italy.

Evaluation is another skill to understand if I have a question or a fact. One of my answers was that how long has New Zealand been defending the cup for?

Using these stategies can help me do other work.

LI: To use our reading strategies and smart searching skills to find out about the America's Cup.

Visualisation

Visualizing is when you know what the book or story would look like by making, a image in your head.

I drew parts of the story that Mr Oglivie was telling us about. I took time in my drawing and how I thought it was good.

The story was about a highway rat stealing travels food. He took food from a bunny, cat, his horse and others. Then a duck showed him a cave, that he thought that there was food the highway rat went inside, the cave and made his way out of it and the duck had a party with her friends.

My visualisation is different then other people because they added roads and other details and I just add details on my rat.

I like visualizing and it is a way to think or draw what a story or instructions look like in my head.

L.I. To visualise part of the story

AFL trainning WK 2

Group B did skills with Andre from AFL.

We reminded couch Andre about the two skills handball and drop punt. We did a pirate dance to help remind us how to pass properly. The kick reminder was to do it is to face the lace from our faces and the two X's to face the sky and the ground then we have to make a M on the ball.

Then we did trackles on our knees with our partners and we had to tackle with each other. How to do it is to do a bear hug and try to tackle them to the ground.

After that we learnt how to ruck in AFL. Ruck is where we had to get in a group of three and one person had to throw the ball in the air and the other, two had a competition to see who can tip the ball to the ground first. We practised over an over again.

I had fun playing AFL (Australian Football League) I want to play this again, I still need to practice  handball.

Reading Large Numbers

Place value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit detemins it's value. When we say numbers we group them within the same house. For example 15709 has fifteen thousand, seven hundreds and nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to pronance big numbers properly. It also allows us to indentify numbers before and after.

L.I. To read number larger than 999.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greeting.

Mihi Whakatau id traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and opening.
It is undertaken by the Tangata whenua ( local inhabits).

The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place. The Maunga ( mountain), Awa
(river), and the Iwi (tribe) are generally used.

Introducing Ingoa (name), okū tupuna ( ancestral place) and where you live is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or the group visitor/s that are being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in 2 groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure long lasting relationships and connections.

Fact Find

I completed this fact find activity from the can do list.

I found facts about Dwayne (Rock) Johnson. For example the Rock was born in 1972 May the 2rd.

First I wrote down five interesting facts about the Rock.

Then I added more images and videos in the four boxes.

Lastly I added the links where the information came from.

I would do another fact with another WWE wrestlers because I love WWE.

L.I. Learning about something new.

Minecraft Guide to Exploration

I read the whole book of Minecraft Guide to Exploration. The illustrator of the book is Ryan Marsh.

This book talks about the landscape in Minecraft, naturally-generated structures and monster and animals.

They're different kinds of landscapes like (desert biomes, sunflower biomes, savanna biomes and a forest biomes)

They're even different kinds of animals and monsters like ( spider, creeper, pig, cows, zombies, sheep and  illagers)

Naturally-generated structures like (mine shafts, stronghold and desert temple)

I enjoyed this book because it talks about information about mobs and buildings. Others could read this book if they haven't played minecraft before.

Print Design Rules

I learned about the Print Design Rules.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the Print Design Rules colour, layout, text and compostion.

Next, I figured out which posters were bad and good with my partners.

Last I reorganised a poster to it look good.

I need to practise making good layouts.

Basic Facts Boxes

I complete the Speed Demon challenge up to 5.

My time was 4 minutes and 4 seconds. The total score I got was 100/100.

I think my time is a decent time because additon was pretty easy, so I should try a harder level.

Handwriting

I practised Handwriting. Handwriting is to write down the alphabet, numbers and symbols neatly.

First I wrote down alphabet, numbers and symbols neatly and slowly.

Then I got one piece of feedback. The feedback I got was to inprove my lower case A. But the rest of the handwriting was good.

This activity was great because I got to see my handwriting improve.

LS1's Learning 3 P's

LS1 learnt about the 3 P's in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 P's in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are Protection, Partnership and Participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 P's in LS1. LS1 figured out the 3 P's are all connected.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connect to me.

I chose these statements because they will help me be successful with my learning in LS1. I will let people play with me if they want to.

AFL training

Group B did skills from Coach Mike.

The first skill we did was shown how to do handball (hit the ball). We had to put your domnitant hand into a fist and the other hand into a dinner plate. We had to hit the ball at the X from the dinner plate. We hit the ball to our partners.

The second skill was how to do a drop pot (kick). We had to face the lace from your face and the two X's to face the sky and the ground then we have to make a M on the ball. We kicked the ball to our partners.

Next we used the handball skill to play octopus. We had fun playing octopus but it was tiring.

Then we played kick the ball at our teachers and the coach. We missed the teachers and the coach but I decided to join the teachers and the coach. Group B tried their best to hit us but they only got Mr Ogilive two times.

I had fun playing AFL (Australian Football League) I want to play this again, I really need to practice handball and drop pot.

I used Prototec to test my knowledge.
