Olympics

I completed an activity based on the Olympics.

First I wrote down the motto, creed and whakatauki for PBS and the Olympics, the logo and flag and the values. The motto, creed, whakatauki, logo, flag and values for Olympics for PBS and Olympics. The motto for Olympics and PBS is Strive and Achieve and Higher, Stronger, Faster.

Next I  wrote down the differences and similarities. An example of the differences between flag and logo is that the PBS logo means the Panmure bridge and the Olympics Flag means the 5 continents. I completed the 5 slides with the differences and the similarities

Finally I created a shield with my motto and my logo on the shield. The design I made was a happy face. The motto was don't worry be happy (The motto came from a song)

The experience was amazing because I got to learn about the Olympics and make my own logo. The next step I need to do is to write down more differences for the Olympics.

Party Popper Prototype

My company, The Toy Designers, created our prototype of our party popper.

First we collected all our material to create our party popper. We chose a plastic cup to make the confetti flig into the air. Then we poked a hole inside to put the rubber band inside.

Second we added the medium rubber into the hole in the prototype party popper. It's hard for our company to put the rubber band in the cup.

To finish up our prototype, by adding the weight and stopper onto our prototype. Our weight and stopper is a dice and a toothpick

I learned a lot about building our prototype, and the party popper was sucessful. Toy Designers need to add more updates to our party popper.

Toy Designers

The task I was given was to change a popper design Mr Wong showed us.

I had to write down the parts of the popper, what it does, the changes of it and reasons why the popper would sell.

I wrote down all the parts of the parts. For example plastic cup, rubber band and tooth pick.

Then I wrote down all what the parts from the popper Mr Wong showed me like the plastic cup is used to hold all the confetii in it.

After that I wrote the changes that I would do. The changes I did was changing the rubber band to a thick rubber band because using a thick band it won't break.

Then I wrote down why people would by the my party popper. The reason why people would buy my popper is our Market will sale our party poppers because people likes pokemon and skittles.

This gave me ideas in my head of the party popper that I will make.

Simliar Simple Machines

Fun fact about wheel and axle is that the wheels generally spin in a balanced circle around an axle. Wheel and axel is used to move heavy objects from a place to a another place.

Unlike a nail, a screw has spiral grooves down its spike. A screw is pressed down against wood and turned with a screwdriver. The grooves cut into the wood. Screws is to hold luquid into a crate so not luquid would spill.

A pulley makes moving heavy loads a lot easier. A single pulley simply changes the direction of an object. Pulley is moving a heavy object from a low place to a high place.

Simple Machine In Real Life

We found simple machines around our school.

An axle and wheel is using a stick and putting a wheel at the end of it. In the school we found a wheel and axle on a car.

An inclined plane is how people get other materials or objects up a ramp to get up high places. In the school we found a incline plane near the hall

A lever helps move something from a low place to a high place. In the school we found a lever and it was a person hand because we all have levers.

A pulley can help lift certain materials up from a low level to a high level. In the school we found a pully that hold our school flag in the air.

Wedge is a machine that pushs something apart. We found a wedge in the school hall and near the junior class rooms.

A Screw is to hold liquid or objects together.  We found a tons of screws around the whole school.

These simple machines are still used today around our school.

Simple machines

There are 6 simple machines. Simple machine are machines that people use to move something around.

Axle and Wheel. An axle and wheel are one of the simple machines. An axle and wheel is using a stick and putting a wheel at the end of it and that makes the a object to move from place to place. An example of this is move a heavy boxs a certain place.

Incline plane. A incline plane it's how people get other material or object up a ramp to get up high places. An example of this is moving a heavy certain material up the incline plane.

A lever. A lever helps move something from a low place to a high place but it uses force to lift something. An example of this is moving a heavy stone using the lever to lift the stone to put something underneath the stone.

A pulley. A pulley help lift a certain material up somewhere very high to place it somewhere to build something. An example is a crain. A crain lift heavy pipes or wood to build a building.

Wedge. Wedge is a machine that pushs something apart. An example of this is a axe, a axe cuts wood in half.

Screw. A Screw is to hold liquid or objects together. The screw works by twisting around.

These simple machines are still used today to move objects.

LS1's Learning 3 P's

LS1 learnt about the 3 P's in the Treaty of Waitangi and how they apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3 P's in the Treaty of Waitangi. They are Protection, Partnership and Participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3 P's in LS1. LS1 figured out the 3 P's are all connected.

After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they connect to me.

I chose these statements because they will help me be successful with my learning in LS1. I will let people play with me if they want to.

Emergency Shelters

Emergency Shelters.

The inquiry task was to write down the materials that are needed for the storm shelter that is going to be built.

In total there are 9 materials that could protect against storm shelter. There are three main materials that are important to use for protecting the shelter and which are concrete, chicken wires, and rubber bracelets. We chose concrete because it is not easy to break apart. We chose chicken wires because it can keep the shelter stable. We chose rubber bracelets because it can stop electricity.

The other six materials are: cotton balls, aluminum, popsicle sticks, duck tape, hard plastic, and steel.  All 9 materials are important for defending the shelter and could be useful for something in danger.

We figured out the amount was because we drew the shelter and drew our materials. We kept on filling the whole until it was finished. For example: For concrete, the height is 18cm and the width is 20cm. There are four walls and the floor. So there are five and five places to use the concrete. That’s how we figured out the concrete can be used.

Emergency shelters are really important when it comes to floods and different kinds of storms.

Shelter Planning.

This week we had to find materials for our shelters. My group chose cotton, aluminum, concrete, plasterboard, nails and brick.

Next we had to find the height and the width. We chose 20cm tall and 25cm long for the walls and the roof is 25cm x 25cm.

Then we copied a document and we wrote down the materials and how much we needed, and the height and the width.

We like this activity and want to do it again.

Inquiry | Experiment

This week for inquiry we did some experimenting. We had to see which material that can absorbent lots of water.

First we had to get a tote tray, 100 millilitre of water, add five drops of blue dye, and get our materials.

The material was stone, sand, cotton, paper towels, nappy brand 1 and 2. Then we had to get the materials and get a glass for the stone or sand and way them up to 5 grams.

My group and I picked up stones and we placed the rocks inside of the the glass. After we got the tote tray and poured the water in the glass.

Then we pored out the water and pored it in a measuring glass to see how much water was absorbed and not absorbed.

Lastly we had to type our results in our recording sheet. My group and I's results were 3 millilitre was absorbed and 97 millilitre was not absorbed.

I liked doing this activity and I learned a lot about how materials can absorb water.

Risk Assessment

LI: to assess the likelihood
LI: to assess consequences

This week we learned about assessing risk.

We had to assess risk from then. There are five risk definitions. They are low, likely, possible, elevated and extreme.

The first task was that we had to pick a number out to 1 to 5. There were fifteen questions and my group and I did a discussion of what number we should pick to see if it was correct, almost or incorrect my group and I did a vote.

After voting each question we got two correct answers, two incorrect answers, and the rest was almost. Then we corrected our answer and did the next task. The next task was we had to write our own situation from 1 to 5. After that we mixed up the answer and deleted those numbers.

This task was hard but we worked together and finished the task.

Prior Knowledge Hazards

L.I. To demonstrate prior knowledge

Knowledge Hazards and Risks

For inquiry we were learning about hazards and risk.

First we did activities. The first activity was to playing four corners.

We had to go to a corner, the corners were spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts and the person had to pick a card if it was spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. The last two people had to guess if the card is red or black.

The second activity is octopus. The two people that are in it had to say something and the person had to run to the end, and if they got tagged they had to be an octopus.

Next we had to list down names of hazards for each category (School, home, community, sports).

Lastly, we had to come up with some risks for our hazards.

Vocabulary light and sound

For inquiry we learnt about vocabulary. We made a slide called find, draw, animate and act.

We used google slides to make a animation, a drawing, a act and images for our words.

The first word we used was pitch. Kahu found images about pitch. The secound word found did was reflect. Kourabeau made an animation for reflect. The third word found was transparent. Sasuke made a video about transparent and I drew a photo of echo.

My group completed our google slide. I learnt about light and sound vocabulary.

Properties of light

Light is something that makes things visible. A property is a characteristic or attribute that something owns.

One property of light is that light can’t show through opaque (not see through) objects. When light shines on the opaque object the light cant shine though a opaque object.

Another property is that light can create a rainbow because the prism shows all the lights colours.  When a flashlight shines on top of the prism it created a rainbow.

Another property is that light changes positions depending on the angle of the mirror.  When light shines on  mirror it reflects off it and it shines in another direction.

There are more properties of light on the document.
