Night in the Forest

Night in the Forest


Read the poster and use the information to complete the following tasks. 


a)  Use the ideas from Night in the Forest to explain how birds, insects, and bats find food at night.     
Fill in the chart. Write one idea for each bullet point.     
The first one has been done for you.
Animal
How does this animal find food?
Kiwi
Can smell food / worms through its nostrils at the end of its nose.

It’s big eyes help it see
Glow worm
It’s lure insects with its light and then catches them with it’s net.
Bat
Echolocation is what animals use to locate objects with sound rather than sight Bats, for example, use echolocation to find food and avoid flying into trees in the dark.

b)  Give the meaning of the word that is underlined in these parts of Night in the Forest.
     i)   "...and makes a net of sticky, dangling threads."
          dangling means drooping
     ii)  "...many native flowers are white to attract night flying moths and beetles."
          attract means appeal to
     iii) "The kiwi is special."

          special means rare

Today we did book called Night in the Forest and
we had to answer all the questions at the bottom of the poem.

Complex Sentence

Simple
The dog likes to play with his toys. 

Complex
When it's morning, the dog likes to play with his toys.

The dog likes to play with his toys, when it’s morning. 

We started with a simple sentence and turned it into a complex sentence.

Favourite Colour

Today we made a pie chart on google sheets. We used tally marks to find out what was our favourite colour. Then we changed all the colours for our pie chart..

Word Cline




For more than an hour, there was perfect stillness, as the shades of evening deepened.

Today we made a word cline the word that I used was day. Then I had to write five sentences.

Ladybirds


Ladybirds
  • Two insects that ladybird larvae eat aphids and scales.
  • Bird don’t eat ladybirds because they taste terrible.
  • Ladybird sometime ooze their bitter orange blood when they play
  • dead.

  • Play dead means trying to be dead.


Today we used part of the Question and part of the text to
write our answer.

Today we made a column chart of our favourite sports and the most one was handball.
