Swimming Lessons

For kiwi sport we learned about swimming skill. The skills are: safe pool entry, streamline, float board, dolphin dive and get the toy.

Our swimming teacher was Shanti, she taught lots about swimming and safety.

First we learnt how to get in the pool safely.

The next skill we did was streamline it took a while to get a hang of it then I succeeded.
Then skill was float board I started swimming all the way to the end and back.
After that we did dolphin diving it was hard but I tried doing it.
Lastly Shanti trew a toy into the water an we had to collect it and bring it back.

I had fun swimming around the pools.

Puntuation Marks

This week for writing we did a punctuation challenge.

I had to write correct punctuated sentences. I had to see how few sentences will it take to use all of the following punctuation marks: capital letters, full stop, exclamation marks, question mark, comma, apostophe, speech marks, brackets, colon, semicolons and slash.

I wrote eight sentences with some of the same punctuation marks. On my first sentence I got  five punctuation mark and the rest I got: 6,7 and 5 puntuation mark.

I finished all the puntuation marks in eight sentences.

I struggled while doing this activity but I succeeded at the end of it.

Word problems and strategies

I learned about word problems and strategies. We had to figure out strategies to solve answers. For example 476-123, you use: written algorithm, number line and place value.

The first question was 84 - 7 we used written algorithm, number line, spitting numbers and counting backwards . We figure the number is 77.

The second number was 1.5-0.885 we used: written algorithm, number line and place value we figured out the number was 0.615.

The third number was 30 divided by 5. The strategies we used was; number line, multilication and skip counting 5. The answer was 5 because you can use 5x tables and count back in five.

The last question was 24 divided by 4 \ 16 divided by 4. We used: grouping with tens, skip count in 4's, number lines and multilication. The answer was 6 and 4.

Explain The Idioms

This week for reading we did explain the idiom.

We did three videos of three idioms. The first idiom was crack a book. I threw a book and Naki told me to crack a book. Crack a book means open a book and study.

The second idiom was rip off. I went to Naki and tried buying a book but it was expensive and I said what a rip off. Rip off means that something's too expensive for someone.

The third idiom was second-to-none. I said hi to Naki and he said hi back then we did backflips and I said your second-to-none. second-to-none means that someone's the best.

We had fun make videos of the three idioms.

Food Storage and Preservation

Today I learned about the text types. The text types are: recount, narrative, explanation, information report, procedural and persuasive.

The first book I chose was Canning with kids, I chose recount because the author tells the audience about what happened to themselves. The next book I chose was The Dippy Dinner Drippy and I chose narrative because it was telling a story to entertain people.

The third book I chose was Poha-A clever way of storing food and it was an information report because it was telling information about something.

The other books I chose are Love food hate waste and Food storage. Love food hate waste is a procedural. Procedural is when the author tells the audience how to do something. Food storage is a persuasive.

Persuasive is when the author attempts to convince the audience to believe something or do something, explanation is when the author tells the audience how something works.

I learned a lot about text types but it took me a while to figure out the text type.
