I made a Haiku Poem.
A Haiku Poem is when you write down 3 boxes and I have to 5 syllables in the first box, 7 syllables in the second and 5 in the third.
I had fun doing this task.
I am a Year 6 student at Panmure Bridge School, Auckland, New Zealand. My teachers are Mr Wong and Mr Ogilvie.
I made a Haiku Poem.
A Haiku Poem is when you write down 3 boxes and I have to 5 syllables in the first box, 7 syllables in the second and 5 in the third.
I had fun doing this task.
This task was what are you doing today?
It was an Te Reo Maori task. I had to place the Maori word where I think is the best spot to put.
I had to put a Maori word from the muiltable word I could pick and I picked tātahi and I think that means beach.
I had fun doing this task.
This week for Summer Learning Journey I made a koru art by using the copy and paste button it took me some thinking to do. I made waves and it looks liek this. I changed the background to represent summer.
I made a insect art by using natures leafs and stick and other materials it was more likely a scavenger hunt but fnd leaf and stuff. What I made was a butterfly, I used different materials and thinking to do.
I got a comment by Fiona from SLJ team. She asked what do I think I can make out of the material. I reply asking what I think it would be and how many comments I did. I can believe that a SLJ team commented on my blog post.
This comment was my fiveth comment and Haylee had a great blog post about comment blog post and saying, if she is ready for a next task for Summer Learning Journey.
I commented on Akuhata's blog post and he did his operation christmas drop. I asked him if that task was hard.
I like doing comments to peoples blog post.
I commented on Victoria christmas decorations blog post and asking if she was happy doing this task.
I comment on Matthew's blog on his Summer Learning Journey Blog post. I asked him what does he think he can make out of the items he had in this blog post.
For this activity I did a task called Fishy False Teeth Kick Start.
I had to read a article about the Fishing False Teeth, complete the template to help me understand the text. Watch a video. Imagine if the characters spoke what they might say and create your own comic - use the template below, Comix or other Comic Strip creator. In your own words add what you think the characters are saying?
The first task was to read a artical and answer the questions on the slide asking, who are the charaters, what part did they play in the story and what was the outcome for them.
Then I watched a video and typed in what I think the charaters are saying.
I love this activity and want to do the next one.
I commented on my brothers blog (Matheus) and I commented on his Summer Learn Journey blog post asking what does he think he can make out of the materials he had.
I like commenting on other peoples blogs.
For SLJ ( Summer Learning Journey) We went on a material hunt.
We had to find paper, empty bottle, something heavy, tin cardboard, hard cardboard, and other things. If we didn't find the materials we could find something kind of same and use it.
We took photos and pictures on screencastify and webcam. We had to record the materials that we find and take a photo of all of the materials.
The material we found was yellow paper, plasic cups, tin cardboard, coca cola can, tape, ruler and others.
We have all the stuff we need now we need to build something next Monday.
This week we watched a performance by a Kapa Haka group.
First they did a special ceremony to welcome us.
Then they used this special shell. It's to warn there tribe that people are near by.
Next they told us about the poi and taiaha. The taiaha is to frighten of the enemy. The poi is for dancing or performing.
After we played Matau and Maui. Matau means you go right Maui means you go left.
I enjoyed this performance i'd like to see it again because it scared me.
This week we carried on peoples names from the past two weeks.
We carried on two and three man settle from last week.
First we practised two and three man settles to get ready for a game of touch. Couch Mark told us to aim for one person when we drive the ball down the field.
Next we played a game of touch. The game was for learning how to play and how to use a two and three man settle
I was really good at two man settles but, I wasn't good at three man settles. I need to practise more three man settles next week.
Emergency Shelters.
The inquiry task was to write down the materials that are needed for the storm shelter that is going to be built.
In total there are 9 materials that could protect against storm shelter. There are three main materials that are important to use for protecting the shelter and which are concrete, chicken wires, and rubber bracelets. We chose concrete because it is not easy to break apart. We chose chicken wires because it can keep the shelter stable. We chose rubber bracelets because it can stop electricity.
The other six materials are: cotton balls, aluminum, popsicle sticks, duck tape, hard plastic, and steel. All 9 materials are important for defending the shelter and could be useful for something in danger.
We figured out the amount was because we drew the shelter and drew our materials. We kept on filling the whole until it was finished. For example: For concrete, the height is 18cm and the width is 20cm. There are four walls and the floor. So there are five and five places to use the concrete. That’s how we figured out the concrete can be used.
Emergency shelters are really important when it comes to floods and different kinds of storms.
This week we had to find materials for our shelters. My group chose cotton, aluminum, concrete, plasterboard, nails and brick.
Next we had to find the height and the width. We chose 20cm tall and 25cm long for the walls and the roof is 25cm x 25cm.
Then we copied a document and we wrote down the materials and how much we needed, and the height and the width.
We like this activity and want to do it again.
We learned the average with the data sheet from athletics day.
Mean or average is adding up numbers and multiplying by how many numbers there are. The teams were red, green, yellow and blue. If a team is in first place they get 4 points, second 3 points, third 2 points and last 1 point.
We had to find the average from 182, 186, 174 and 182. We know that 182 is 20.2 so that means that 186 is 20.6. We did two averages, so 174 divided by 9= 19.333333333 but we need to take away the seven 3’s. 19.33 has two 3’s and the 3 at the end goes down and the number is now 19.3.
The averages of 182, 186, 174 and 182 is 20.2, 20.2, 20.6 and 19.3.
This week I chose a book The Twits. This is a fiction book which means it's a made up story. It's based on The Twits
This week we did a task named Auckland volcanoes.
Some volcano names are Puketāpapa, Pukewiwi means Mt Roskill, Maungarei means Mt Willington and Rarotonga means Mt Smart.
The second activity was the weather sheet where we had to look up the weather from the Maori dictionary. For example He kapua means cloudy and he paki means sunny.
Fantastic Mr Fox is a Roald Dahl that steals food from Boggis, Bean and Bunce. Boggis, Bean and Bunce are three rich farms. Boggis has the chicken, Bunce has the goose and ducks, Bean has the turkeys and apples.
In chapter 13 Mr Fox dug right underneath Bunce's storage house with lots of ducks and geese. Mr Fox took a lot of geese and ducks and one fox was remaining and he was the smallest fox of them all and Badger was with them.
In chapter 14 Badger, Mr Fox and the one remaining fox. Badger was saying why does Mr Fox like stealing and they had a little talk and at the end of chapter 14 Badger understood what Mr Fox was saying, and they agreed on something.
This week we did athletics day, we played different fun games.
The three games we played were rob the nest, lily pad gladiator and long throw. Rob the nest is when they’re four teams and each team has a tagger. When I got tagged from a tagger I had to stand still until my team untagged me.
Lily pad gladiator is when two teams are together and one person from that team needs to jump to lily pad to lily pad and when the two people get in front of each other face to face they need to do rock, paper, scissor and who ever got out the next needs to do the same thing.
Long throw is when throwing a soft ball as far as I could and my team mate needs to beat my high score.
When we did sprints we did year 1’s to year 8’s. When we did our race I came thrid place and Naki and Fotu can 1 and 2.
I really want to do athletics day next year.
This week I did a comment thread with Kahu. I commented on Kahu's fraction Practise, I asked him what fraction did he like and he replied to me what he like and asked me the same question and I replied to that. We replied to each other four times.
I want to do another comment with someone else.
Screenplays are scripts that are converted into speeches and actions only.
The actors names are in the centre and in capitial letters. The actors sentence are under the actors names. The parts with actions are moved to the left a little bit with brackets.
In screenplays the scenes are written on the right in capitial letter. Screenplays have short sentences, the lines don't need speech marks because it could help what tone to use.
Knowing how to write a screenplay is very inportant because if the actor doesn't have their lines, the movie would be bad.
L.I. To convert a story into a scirpt/screenplay
This week for Maori we translate peoples names, a lot of them sound like their English names.
The letter thats Maori doesn't use are: j,s,l,d and v. They change the letters j,s to h. l,d to r and v to w.This week for maths we got a partner and showed each other what work we did from week 1 and week 2.
The activity I showed my partner was how to convert or measure and he showed me how to add. In measurement it has four different types of measurements they are ( mm, cm, m and km)
In addition and subtraction the symbol that we use is the (plus and the subtraction symbol + - ) Adding is when you get numbers and add them up like 5+6=11, and subtraction is like 10-7=3.
In week two the activity I showed was time and my partner's one was money. In time there are units of time and 3 different types of time like analogue, digital and 24 hour time. The units of time are ( seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks , months e.g)
Money uses the place value system and in New Zealand they use the 100’s place value system. In New Zealand they use cents and dollar. The dollars are ( 5$, 10$, 20$, 50$ and 100$) The cents are ( 10c, 20c, 50c
I learned a lot about addition and subtraction and money. My partner was the best teacher and I was the best student.
We watched a performance by Duffy theatre group about the Coggen. A Coggen is a mythca creature that is a mixture of a cat, dog and chciken.
Before the show, the actor introduced thenmselves. Then we sang the Duffy song.
Then the actors performed for us.
Lastly then Duffy group held a question and answer session.
I like the Duffy performance it was a amazing performance and I want to watch it again.
Today we learned some basic skills for touch rugby.
We learned how to tap the ball, catch and, pass the ball.
Afterwards we played passing drills to get better to committing to the ball and caughting.
I really like touch rugby and want to do it again next week.
This week our kiwi sport was
First we threw the ball above our heads and catch it. One person dropped the ball when they threw the ball up high and dropped it. Then we had to walk and throw above our heads, and do it again but we had to walk backwards.
Next we threw the ball above our heads, around our necks, around our waists, under our legs and hold it in front of our chests. Then we had to walk and throw the ball above our heads, around our necks, around our waists, under our legs and hold it in front of our chests, and we had to do it again but we had to walk backwards.
Then we did an activity when we had to get a partner, after that we turn to our left and one
This week for inquiry we did some experimenting. We had to see which material that can absorbent lots of water.
First we had to get a tote tray, 100 millilitre of water, add five drops of blue dye, and get our materials.
The material was stone, sand, cotton, paper towels, nappy brand 1 and 2. Then we had to get the materials and get a glass for the stone or sand and way them up to 5 grams.
My group and I picked up stones and we placed the rocks inside of the the glass. After we got the tote tray and poured the water in the glass.
Then we pored out the water and pored it in a measuring glass to see how much water was absorbed and not absorbed.
Lastly we had to type our results in our recording sheet. My group and I's results were 3 millilitre was absorbed and 97 millilitre was not absorbed.
I liked doing this activity and I learned a lot about how materials can absorb water.
L.I To learn and practice experimental methods
Formal is times when rules need to be followed and informal is when rules don't need to be followed.
Formal language is: hello, greeting, how are you, want to, do not. Informal language is: sup, G, wanna, don't, let's go.
Formal situations is: meetings, announcements, assembly, funeral. Informal situations are: park, at home, at a field, playing a game.
L.I To identify formal and informal language.
This week for Maori we learned about body parts. For example upoko means head. We needed to figure out what each body part means in Maori.
We had to highlighted the list of body parts, if we know what the Maori word is we highlighted it blue and highlight it black if we don't know the Maori word.
I knew six Maori word and the rest I didn't know. I looked up the words that I didn't know and learned it.
The ones I know was stomach, head and mouth. The Maori word are: mahunga or upoko for head, waha for mouth and puku for stomach.
I learned a few words but I need to learn more Maori words.
